new technologies
Perhaps as valuable as the primary findings of this work are the technological and methodological innovations that have come along with it.

Because we needed to monitor subjects' eye movements, we became one of the first sites to integrate infrared eye tracking with fMRI. A technical report on that is currently in preparation.

Because our statistical analysis needed to be sensitive to very subtle activations, we developed the first efficient algorithm for statistical permutation testing applied to functional image data. A report on that was published this past year, and the software has been released for free use by other research groups.

Lastly, we feel that the technique of group analysis across individual functional maps will be useful in other cognitive studies, where activations can be weak and noisy, and anatomy varies across individuals.
